An exciting opportunity is available for an Attorney Advisor position in the northwest regional offices of the General Counsel for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration in Seattle, Washington.  This office is responsible for advising NOAA regarding ocean fishery conservation and management throughout the Pacific Coast, as well as protection of threatened and endangered anadromous and marine species and marine mammals in the Pacific Northwest.  Currently, this office consists of 12 attorneys, a paralegal, and an office manager.  NOAA is a premiere environmental agency located within the Department of Commerce and employs over 12,000 individuals nationwide.  The agency's mission is to conserve and manage coastal and marine resources and to understand and predict changes in the Earth's environment to meet the Nation's economic, social and environmental needs.  For more information see www.noaa.gov, and www.gc.noaa.gov.   Salary range is from $73,420.00 - $155,000.00 /year.  Application may be made by sending a resume, writing sample (not exceeding ten pages), and cover letter to Mary Foote, Office of the General Counsel, or by e-mail to: mary.foote@noaa.gov.  Applications must be emailed or postmarked by August 2, 2010.

Candidates will preferably have academic training or experience as an attorney practicing in the area of environmental and/or marine resources statutes and regulations.  A strong applicant for this position would have experience with or knowledge of the Endangered Species Act and Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and also other statutes, such as Marine Mammal Protection Act, Federal Power Act, Administrative Procedure Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Regulatory Flexibility Act, and Freedom of Information Act.  Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to identify and resolve complex legal issues.  Applicants also must demonstrate the ability to manage large projects independently, assimilate large amounts of materials quickly, balance a large and diverse workload, and work effectively in a team with other attorneys and support staff.  Some travel, including overnight travel, will be required.
