Rogelio Del Pino
Rogelio del Pino came to the this country alone at the tender age of 14 via the "Peter Pan Flights" fleeing the Castro regime. Overcoming difficulties, he received his Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science and History from Florida Atlantic University in 1970 and his Juris Doctor in 1976 from the University of California, Southwestern School of Law.
While at University of California, he helped create and form what was known as the Cuban Law Student Association, later known as the Hispanic Lawyers Association at Southwestern.
Academically, Mr. del Pino worked in the One Stop Immigration Law Center and was part of the legal team in the United States Supreme Court Case Fiallo v. Levy with Professor Gary Manulkin representing Mexicans in Los Angeles.
He began his legal career In the law firm of Stone, Sostchin and Gonzalez, P.A. where he worked his way up to partner. In 1981, he left the firm and opened his own practice with two other lawyers called Gomez, Fente & del Pino, P.A. That firm dissolved in 2002 and del Pino and Associates was created. Mr. del Pino focuses in the practice of Personal Injury and Immigration Law although still handling several matters in Bankruptcy, Family, Probate and Criminal Law.
Mr. Del Pino is admitted to practice in the Florida Bar and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Mr. del Pino served as the President of the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) in 1983 and as a Board of Director for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He is also a currently a member of the American Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Dade County Bar Association.
Among many of his achievements, was his participation as a member of the legal team representing Cuban Rafters at Guantanamo Bag, Cuba in 1994. Mr. del Pino travelled to the military base, spent time interviewing the detainees and helping them prepare political asylum applications and advising them on how to handle their own cases for the Immigration process. For his work, along with the legal team, he travelled to Tallahassee, Florida where the Florida Bar awarded the volunteer attorneys with a Pro Bono Award.
Mr del Pino continues to give back in the form of volunteer service to CABA's Pro Bono Project. In 2009, he was bestowed the pro Bono Award at CABA's Art in the Tropics for his outstanding pro bono hours. He resides in Coral Gables with his wife, Amelia, and has two children: Roger who works in the area of Sound Design and Victoria, a County Court Judge in Miami.
